Nikitas N. Karanikolas
Dr. Nikitas N. Karanikolas received his Diploma in Computer Science from the Athens University of Economics and Business, Greece, in 1988 and his Ph.D. from the same University, in 1994. He is a professional in software development and support, since 1987. In 1996, he joined Technological Educational Institute of Athens (TEI-A) as Systems’ Head of Library. He had been working as Systems’ Head of Areteion University Hospital for a long period (started on October 1997 and lasted till November 2004).
Since November 18, 2004 is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Informatics of Technological Educational Institute of Athens. Recently (Sept. 7, 2010), he progressed (as result of election) to Associate Professor.
His current research interests lie in Computational Linguistics, Natural Language Understanding, Multilingual Information Retrieval, Text Data Mining, Information Extraction, Advanced Databases, Medical Informatics, e-Commerce and e-Government.
He had been General Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Greek Computer Society (Feb. 2006 till Jan. 2008).
